PET INSURANCE why it will become so important to your pet.

Why is Pet Insurance going to become so important in Australia as it is overseas?
Do we believe this to be the case?
I think it is safe to say, that we would all have to agree that our pets certainly become one of the family. But you may ask why medication is more costly for your pet than for other family members. A recent Newspaper headline questions why "My dog's heart medication cost $80.30 for 28 tablets - my husband's costs $11.99 for 30 tablets". Also with the sharp rise in the cost of EVERYTHING in recent years, it is becoming more difficult for families to budget for the unexpected pet emergency.

Unfortunately, there is no government concessions or funding for companion animal medical care or research. There is:
- No Medicare.
- No Health Care Cards.
- No subsidised Pharmacy medications.
- No funded Medical Research.
- No government funded Dental units.
- No government funded Pathology services.
- No government built Hospitals.
- No generous government incentives to attract Veterinary Surgeons to remote areas as with human Doctors.

Which means that ALL medical care and medical research for our pets is "user pays". And it is safe to say that "This situation wont change until our pets get the vote and start paying taxes!!".

All health care is expensive and providing Veterinary health care is extremely "expense heavy", and whereas the public largely sees Vets as being very well paid, the Vet Surgeons Award is quite modest ($37 000 for a Graduate Veterinarian and $54 000 for an experienced/senior Veterinary Surgeon). Most veterinarians chose their occupation because they love animals so much and set their fees fairly and after great deliberation. However, they are not able to cushion pet owners from inevitable fee increases. Also many clinics are no longer offering credit or payment plans.

So - "Yes" we do believe Pet Insurance will become very important. Pet insurance takes the worry and the stress out of having to pay those unexpected vet bills.

There are many reliable pet insurance policies for you to choose from depending on what best suits your situation. One of our favorites if ProSure. MediBank has a "Pet Insurance" button on their Homepage now also - to put your mind at ease knowing that the WHOLE family is covered.

Policies include a wide range of choices ranging from basic cover which includes accidents only, and extending to full cover which includes accidents, illness and routine care including vaccinations.

We at the Charleville Vet Surgery will always try to give your pet the best care you can afford, but if you wish the best for your loved pet we strongly recommend that you consider taking out pet insurance so that you are in a position to give your four legged companion the level of care and treatment that you want for them.

Please do not hesitate to give the clinic a call if you need help in finding a Pet Insurance provider.
